Therapist

Hello! I’m Cassandra.  I am a big believer that healing the heart is the place to start. If you are looking to discover the root cause or underlying feeling, you have come to the right place!

You are the expert of your life; what I do is help you dissect and uncover experiences that may or may not root in your childhood that is affecting you in the present day. Together, we will explore your emotions attached to your experiences while unraveling the narrative behind the experience. Then, the goal is to reframe the narrative or story, so that you can best cope with your experiences and move past them to a place of healing. To every session, I bring empathy, compassion, and an open mind. As we work together, you can expect a safe and judgement-free zone. I always meet my clients where they are at. This means that you take the lead with what you want to talk about.

With ten years of experience in social services and the mental health field, combined with personal experience and education, I bring a wide range of knowledge of various topics, such as trauma, anxiety, depression, loss and grief, relationship issues, parenting, and more.

A little more about me:

After graduating from high school, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and Sociology from the University of Winnipeg. Then, I decided to pursue the Applied Counselling certificate program through the University of Manitoba where I fell even more in love with the field of helping others. Helping others in their healing journey is what led me to the Masters of Counselling Psychology program at Yorkville University.

In my early 20’s, I moved to Ecuador for a year to experience life in another country. This is where I learned to speak intermediate Spanish.

Throughout my (many) years in university, I worked in the Social Services sector, specializing in Mental Health. Through various roles, I was able to apply my education and learned so much along the way. Somewhere in the midst of working and studying, I had two beautiful children. When my children aren’t keeping me busy, I love to go salsa dancing.

Fun fact: I used to dance in folklorama in the Cuban pavilion!

The modalities I use:

Narrative therapy:

Narrative therapy is a form of therapy that views people as the experts of their own lives and focuses on the stories they tell about themselves. I work collaboratively with clients to explore these narratives, identify problem-saturated stories, and co-author new, more empowering narratives.

Narrative therapy is a strengths-based approach that seeks to empower clients by highlighting their strengths, resources, and resilience.

Emotional focused therapy:

Emotion-focused therapy (EFT) is a form of therapy that prioritizes the understanding and regulation of emotions to promote healing and growth. EFT involves identifying and exploring emotions, understanding their underlying functions, and facilitating adaptive emotional expression and processing.

EFT is particularly effective in treating individuals with issues related to trauma, depression, anxiety, and interpersonal difficulties.

What you can expect in a session with me:

Sharing your story is an important part of the process. Together, we will explore the ways the problem shows up in your life and see where we can work to hold space, understand, and move toward change, healing your heart along the journey.

Taking that initial step to seek help is a significant step on your life journey. Healing is never linear, and I am here to meet you at whatever point you might be. You are the expert in your life, and I will individualize the support you seek, building off your current strengths and resilience.

Udynamics

I understand that talking about mental health can be challenging, but sharing your experiences can be incredibly liberating and healing. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or simply need someone to listen, I am here for you. It’s okay to feel vulnerable, and seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness.

I took my training to become an integrative nutrition health coach because I wanted to be more connected with how my own body worked a functioned. I was used to being sick every 10-14 days with a cold or a flu and I wanted to learn how to build my immune system and my digestion. Every few months I would get an eczema flare up, acne or something skin-wise that was already ‘remedied’ with a steroid cream. This never solved any issue and months later it would pop up on another patch of skin. There wasn’t any problem-solving and only surface solutions.
